Busy Weekend for Youth Ministry

We've got a busy Sunday ahead of us

First, we've got our trained youth mass ministers serving at the 12:30pm mass this Sunday, so please come out and give a good youth showing.

Then, at 2pm in Room 109C, we've got our first meeting about our Summer Trip to the Steubenville Mid-America Conference. Check out the Attachment at the bottom of this page for a description of the trip.

And after all that we have our regular SUMMA meeting for Sunday Night, at 6:30pm in Fr. Gresham, where we're gonna pick up from last semester's momentum and continue to dive deeper into our Catholic Faith and how our Catholic Church moves and works throughout history and in today's world.

You'll also find all the signups for the different events including the aforementioned Steubenville Youth Conference and Rent-the-Teens Workday and DYC 2010: iWorship

All in all it's gonna be a long, but fruitful day.

God bless you and God love you

Weekend of Praise

This Saturday after the 4:30pm mass we'll be heading over to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cordova to take part in Festival of Praise.

The Festival of Praise is a new way for us Catholics to experience praise of God. Many times we fail to see the glorious slender in the Mass and in the Sacraments. We're so dulled by the routine of the Mass that we have let the routine take control over our passion for God. Festival of Praise is an event that can help us recapture our passion for God, which will, in turn, make Mass come alive, it can be a stepping stone to make our prayer life more personal.

It is important to know that things like Festival of Praise and DYC and Steubenville Retreats are pointers to the slender found in the Mass. Because the Mass is where all the preparation comes into fruition and we meet our Lord most concretely in the Holy Eucharist.

Another important factor in growing in our passion for God is sharing and being in a community of believers, so that our love for God can overflow over onto our neighbors and we can truly shout out to our Lord as the one Body of Christ that He prayed for in the garden before His most glorious act.

Please join us this Sunday at 6:30pm in Fr. Gresham Hall for our Weekly SUMMA Meeting to help foster the love that God offers us in Himself through you and this community.

First Semester is in the Books

I'm extremely proud of the leadership team and progression of Youth Ministry this Fall '09 Semester. I hope that you all enjoyed yourself as much as I did.

So I take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we'll see you Sunday, January 10 at 6:30 in Fr. Gresham for our Spring '10 Kickoff

Matthew Kelly This Sunday

First off let me apologize for the lack of updates recently, a ton has gone on since my last post.

For starters we successfully finished the Pumpkin Patch, YAY!!! We had a blast at our All Saints Lock-In, and I must thank Keith Willey for his amazing dummy hanging skills for our Martyr Mystery. We've also been journeying through the Mission of Jesus at each of meetings this semester.

We also took a trip to Kansas City, MO to participate in the National Catholic Youth Conference. This trip was amazing, 22,000 people all celebrating Jesus in their Catholic Faith, twas truly a sight to behold.

So what now? As mentioned in the title of this post, our regular SUMMA Meeting will not be taking place at Fr. Gresham as usual, we will travel over to Collierville and welcome speaker Matthew Kelly to Memphis. Matthew Kelly is a world renown author and speaker, the topic for his talk on Sunday is "Becoming the Best-Version-of-Yourself". Also, he'll be accompanied by Elliot Morris who has toured with John Mayer, Counting Crows, and James Taylor.

We will be meeting outside of Fr. Gresham Hall at 5:15pm, and we plan to be at Incarnation Church by 5:45pm.

SUMMA Rolls On

We're about half way through the Fall Semester of Youth Ministry and we're moving right along.

This week we're going to put our memories to the test, and show how much we know, or don't know about... well, I don't want to ruin the surpise. I promise this will not be trivia, but it should be glorious.

Next Saturday we'll be helping with Trunkster Alley and we'll have the All Saints Lock-in after Trunkster Alley is finished. THERE WILL BE NO SUMMA ON ALL SAINTS DAY.

SUMMA SUMMA

This week at SUMMA you will find sign ups and registration for:

  • Pumpkin Patch Shifts
  • ESCRA Basketball
  • Trunkster Alley
  • All Saints Lock-In
  • Fall Leaf Raking
  • Family Bags for Fayette County
  • The Snow Ball Christmas Dance

Each of these activities will help to build our community, not only amongst the the Youth Ministry Program, but throughout the Parish. Contact Me if you are interested in being involved in any of these fundraisers/activities/service projects.

This Sunday, we'll be building on the things we've already been over, we were created in God's image, we messed up, and now, how does God respond to our mistake? Jennie and Adam will lead us to help understand God's response to the Fall of Man.

Upcoming Opportunities With Senior CYM

That's a loaded title, so what's on the docket for OLPH Senior CYM?

All throughout this month we'll continue to run the Pumpkin Patch which has gone well so far, the hay display will be setup this weekend and we're getting into the heart of October so projections look good for our largest fundraiser of the year as long as we continue to have good Youth participation with the patch.

At the end of the Month we'll be serving the tinier contingent of our parish by helping with Trunkster Alley on Halloween Night beginning at 4pm back in the Pavilion by the OLPH Fields.

After Trunkster Alley we'll begin our All Saints Lock-in in Fr. Gresham Hall. The night will be centered around a Martyr Mystery. Come dressed as a famous villain in either cinema or novel and the night shall unravel with games, movies, and catching the culprit.

It's also not too early to mention our Christmas Dance, The Snow Ball. Which will take place on Friday, December 11 beginning at 7pm. Tickets will begin to go on sale at SUMMA on Sunday, $3 per person if you buy before hand, and $5 at the door if you missed out. Drinks and Snacks are included in the dance. Also, see me for tickets, if you sell 6 tickets then your admission will be free.
