OLPH Sr. High Youth Group

LASERQUEST this Sunday, June 27

I’m sorry for being out of contact for the last couple of weeks, with all the activities around the parish I haven’t had much time to settle down and go through emails and get info out.

Any who, this Sunday, June 27, we’re going to LaserQuest (3417 Plaza Avenue, Memphis, TN – Poplar and Highland area), we’ll meet up at OLPH at 2pm by Fr. Gresham Hall and head out from there. Adults, I’m pretty sure I’ll need some volunteer drivers to get the group there, and you’re more than welcome to stay and play.

We’ll be playing 3 games of lasertag, and the cost for this is $18 per person, we will return to Fr. Gresham afterwards for pizza and just to hang out, and, maybe if the mood strikes watch a movie. All in all it looks to be a great Summer Sunday.

Looking forward to seeing you all Sunday,

Matt

It's that time of the Year Again... SOFTBALL!!!

Hey EVERYBODY,

The time has come when High School Youth from all over the Memphis area come together to make a magnificent display of athleticism, grace, speed, and coordination... who am I kidding? We do our best just to make contact with a 4.5in diameter ball traveling at roughly 4-5mph on an arching pattern towards the batter, and God knows the many fielding woes... but I digress.

Judging by the little spatter that I just went on, you can tell that we need some help with our game, that is why we have these things called practice. And our first practice is Wednesday, May 12 at 7pm on the OLPH Field.

So if you want to play, whether you're the next big slugger, or if you've never picked up a bat or a mitt, you are more than welcome and I guarantee that we'll have a blast.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at 901.754.1204x319 or via email at: mhudson@olphgermantown.org

Deadlines and Upcoming Events

As the school year winds down and summer comes bounding in, it brings new focus to the ever changing dynamic of youth ministry.

Today, 72 teens will be confirmed by Bishop Terry Stieb and will be fully initiated Catholics. From that moment on they will be official Senior High Youth, so be sure to welcome them into our ranks.

This Sunday is the deadline for the final payment for the Steubenville Youth Conference. If you are unsure what you may owe for the conference please contact me via email (mhudson@olphgermantown.org).

Next Saturday, April 24, we'll be helping Catholic Charities and their refugee program. We will help the refugees clean their apartments. We will be meeting at 8am at OLPH near Fr. Gresham Hall. I need at least 10 youth and 4 adults to help. I expect this to take around 3-5 hours depending on how many come out to help. Again, contact me if you are interested in helping out. The time recorded for this can be used for service hours for school.

This weekend there will also be sign ups for parking at Mike Rose Soccer Complex and Catholic Heart Work Camp Host Youth group at our meeting on Sunday. Also be sure to sign up for Summer Softball, our first practice will be on the OLPH Field on Wednesday, May 12 at 7pm.

See you all there on Sunday.

Busy Weekend for Youth Ministry

We've got a busy Sunday ahead of us

First, we've got our trained youth mass ministers serving at the 12:30pm mass this Sunday, so please come out and give a good youth showing.

Then, at 2pm in Room 109C, we've got our first meeting about our Summer Trip to the Steubenville Mid-America Conference. Check out the Attachment at the bottom of this page for a description of the trip.

And after all that we have our regular SUMMA meeting for Sunday Night, at 6:30pm in Fr. Gresham, where we're gonna pick up from last semester's momentum and continue to dive deeper into our Catholic Faith and how our Catholic Church moves and works throughout history and in today's world.

You'll also find all the signups for the different events including the aforementioned Steubenville Youth Conference and Rent-the-Teens Workday and DYC 2010: iWorship

All in all it's gonna be a long, but fruitful day.

God bless you and God love you

Ministry Opportunities

Forms - Email - Calling Post

Paperwork: All OLPH SR high youth participants need to have a Medical Release form and OLPH on Campus Permission form on file at all times. Each August at the kick-off event, new forms must be completed.  Before every major trip, a Personal Information form must be completed for each participant. The Personal Information Form enables the trip advisors to take care of the youth throughout the trip!

E-Mail List: The OLPH youth program has an official “Youth Program E-Mail List”. Addresses on the list will receive regular reminders about ministry activities, and news from the youth program. Contact mhudson@olphgermantown.org  to be added or removed from the list.

Calling post: The SR high youth group uses an automated message delivery system called “calling post” that can call a specific list of phone numbers. The youth program uses this technology to remind its participants of things that are happening. Only participants who request to be on the calling post list receive phone calls. Contact mhudson@olphgermantown.org to be added or removed from the list.
